As I sit on my flight to Vancouver, where I have a layover before I head to Tokyo, I can’t help but think how lucky I am to have the lifestyle I do. Every single opportunity I have been given in the past year or so has been greatly influenced by my friends and family and without them, there is no way I would ever have the courage to go and do half of what I have done. I am so incredibly grateful that this is my life and that I am constantly surrounded by people who encourage me to follow my dreams. Above all, the fact that I get to show my parents the world and get to do what they never had the opportunity to do is so extremely important to me. Although I just started this adventure, I cannot wait to get back and show and tell my parents and friends every single thing that I got to experience and how it changed my life.
Even more, one of the single most exciting things about my trip is that I am doing it nearly all on my own. Yes, I am meeting a few friends and my mother here and there, but for the majority of the time I will be by myself. By traveling by myself I will have the opportunity to disconnect from my normal everyday life and to find myself and happiness again. I am not afraid. I know that I will remain aware at all times and keep my wits about me. What more, is the fact that this trip will help me gain a new appreciation for Asian culture and all that encompasses it. I could not be more excited about this new beginning and adventure and cannot wait to share it with everyone.
